Clean, Green Cafe Culture

I'm going native at Go Native in Jayanagar, Bangalore. Tree lined, so, so green and miles away from the hooting and the honking and the hurry and bustle of the city centre.
 

Organic, natural, sustainable, locally sourced, recyclable are the keywords of the 21st Century and are moving on from their idealistic but unrealistic New Agey beginnings to unavoidable driving forces in the market. Big brands are beginning to take note of the growing number of people who prefer clean to trendy. Bamboo toothbrushes are a thing now. Even a child knows what a landfill is. The times they are a changin'. And it's showing in the way we approach design and in the choices we make.

 
  
 
So off I went. It had an incense laced spa like smell - the smell of choice in places like these. But I liked it. I liked the intent. The very real, very sincere effort to get our relationship with the environment right. So there were earth friendly labels on display -  fashion, food, lifestyle products, jewellery. Browsing was a pleasure. There were gentle signs here and there politely guiding you on do's and don'ts. Here were people walking the talk and showing you how you make small and very doable changes that can and will make a big difference to our impact on our surroundings.
 
They have a cafe. The food is, of course, made from locally sourced produce, clean and well made. I had a thin crust ragi pizza which I rather liked. I have to say there is an added satisfaction in knowing that your actions aren't a part of a systemic pillaging. So my pizza went down well and my calorie intake and carbon footprint stayed low.
 
We're seeing gentle design everywhere. In our choice of themes, ways of making. Soon - maybe in our life times, it will become a way of life.
